Connected Health SMEs must balance the different forms of Intellectual Property (IP) protection to effectively safeguard their innovations and establish a competitive advantage in the marketplace. By carefully considering the benefits and drawbacks of patents ,trademarks, trade secrets, and copyright, companies can build a comprehensiveIP protection strategy that meets their business goals and protects their valuable assets. The rapid growth of health innovations and technologies and the life cycle of digital and connected health products creates the need for a specific perspective on comprehensive, flexible and cost-effective IP and legal strategy.

The intellectual property strategy doesn’t stand alone and must align with the legal frameworks of the business. In order to successfully navigate this landscape and mitigate risk, it is essential that Connected Health SMEs have a solid understanding of legal considerations such as employee agreements, contracts, shareholder agreements and non-disclosure agreements.

Key learning outcomes of this workshop are the following:

· Understanding the principles of IP in Connected Health - importance and usage of patents, trademarks, trade secrets and copyrights to form the most valuable IP strategy

· Understanding legal considerations for SMEs by focusing on contract law basics and more

· Applying theory to real world case studies with SMEs
